To celebrate what would have been Elvis Presley's 89th birthday on Monday (January 8), his former co-star Nancy Sinatra took to social media with an emotional tribute.

Nancy, 83, developed a very close relationship with The King after starring alongside him in the 1968 American musical action film, Speedway.

However, it's claimed that the pair's relationship never developed romantically as Elvis was reportedly worried about repercussions from Nancy's father, Frank Sinatra.

The pair got close on the set of the movie, filmed in North Carolina, evidenced by photos shared by the veteran actress on her social media.

Sinatra wrote, "It was so easy to get lost in his dreamy eyes. It was so easy to be silly with him. It was so easy to feel at home in his arms."

She continued, "So much sadness and regret. He was so easy to love."

Nancy then shared another single photo of the pair when they were younger, adding: "This was the day we met at Fort Dix which will show you how long we knew each other. We were mostly telephone friends for decades."

The 'Bang Bang' singer has previously opened up about her relationship with Presley, telling People in 2021 that he was the 'funniest man and probably the most serious man I knew'.

"He made me laugh so hard." she said. "And at the same time, he would call me late at night to discuss things like the ghetto, and his concern for people in the ghetto.

"I don't know if that's surprising," she added. "People who follow his life probably are aware of his sensitivity."

Elvis's complicated relationship with Nancy was previously discussed in the Gary Lindberg book Letters From Elvis, which included private letters from The King to his spiritual advisor, Carmen Montez.

Lindberg observed: "Elvis was increasingly fearful of the heavy-handed tactics of Frank Sinatra and his mob connections.

"In a letter, he told Montez that he didn't want any dalliance with Nancy because toying with Frank's daughter seemed like playing with fire."
