Rolling Stones legend Mick Jagger thanks fans after successful heart surgery

Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger has had successful surgery to replace a damaged valve in his heart.

The iconic rock star was forced to postpone the Rolling Stones' US leg of their latest world tour last weekend, after doctors told Jagger he could not perform.

The New York Post first reported that Jagger damaged a valve in his heart, and needed to receive a stent to fix the valve. The procedure is thought to have an exceptionally high success rate.

“You can be back at work within weeks,” a source told Page Six. “But it could be because the health checks are all set into the insurance for the tour, maybe they’re being careful.”

Apologising to fans on Twitter, Jagger wrote: “I’m so sorry to all our fans in America & Canada with tickets. I really hate letting you down like this.

"I’m devastated for having to postpone the tour but I will be working very hard to be back on stage as soon as I can. Once again, huge apologies to everyone.”

The Stones' rescheduled dates for the US tour have not yet been announced.

Later in the week, Jagger underwent the procedure, and later thanked fans for their support.

He said: "Thank you everyone for all your messages of support, I’m feeling much better now and on the mend - and also a huge thank you to all the hospital staff for doing a superb job."
