Forget about the hundred-odd baubles given out each year... the real pull of the Grammy Awards is always the musical performances from the special guests.

The 2024 ceremony was no exception, with incredible spots from the likes of Stevie Wonder, Dua Lipa, a Luke Combs and Tracy Chapman duet, and Billy Joel's comeback single among the magical moments on the night.

Despite that remarkable competition, there was one artist who truly stole the show, and that was Joni Mitchell.

After years in retirement following a brain aneurysm, Joni made her stunning return to live performance last year.

And ahead of a couple of massive headline shows, she made her bow as a Grammys performer backed by a band including Brandi Carlile, SistaStrings, Blake Mills, Lucius. Allison Russell and Jacob Collier.

Joni sang whille sat on a white-and-gold chair for the performance at the Crypto.com arena in Los Angeles that was truly befitting the queen of folk.

While we said the actual awards at the Grammys aren't as important as the performances, we should probably also mention that Joni did actually win an award last night at the Crypto.com arena in Los Angeles.

She picked up the Best Folk Album gong, beating competition from Dom Flemons, The Milk Carton Kids, Nickjel Creek, Old Crow Medicine Show, Paul Simon and Rufus Wainwright.

"We had we had so much fun at that concert and I think you can feel it on the record," said Joni as she accepted the award.

"You know it's a very joyous record because of the people that I played with in the spirit of the occasion was very high and I went on to the record even the audience sounds like music."

Mitchell had actually made an unannounced appearance at the 2022 Grammys alongside Bonnie Raitt to introduce a performance from her regular collaborator Brandi Carlile.

Joni and Brandi performed together at that year's Newport Folk Festival, before Joni went on to headline her own show last year at Washington's Gorge Amphitheatre.

Joni and her regular gang will bring her Joni Jams shows to the Hollywood Bowl on October 19 and 20, and tickets are available now.
