  • He was signed to Sun Records in Memphis in 1954.
     
  • Elvis Presley had 18 UK number one singles including All Shook Up, Jailhouse Rock and Its Now or Never.
     
  • He had 11 Number one albums, including Rock n Roll, Elvis Is Back, and Blue Hawaii.
     
  • He starred in 31 films including Viva Las Vegas and G.I. Blues.
     
  • Globally, he has sold over one billion records, more than any other artist.
     
  • Aloha from Hawaii was broadcast live via satellite on January 14, 1973. It was the most watched broadcast by an individual entertainer in television - pulling in more viewers than the moon landing.
     
  • In 1969, Elvis performed for 58 consecutive sold out shows at the Las Vegas Hilton, breaking all Vegas attendance records; he then continued to break his own record throughout the 70’s.
     
  • He was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960.

  • In 1967 Elvis married Priscilla Beaulieu, who he met eight and a half years earlier during his tour of duty in Germany, at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas. Their daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, is born exactly nine months later, on February 1, 1968.
     
  • Elvis bought Graceland in 1957. It’s now the second most famous house in the USA after The White House, and attracts over 600,000 visitors every year.
     
  • In 1979 Kurt Russell starred as The King in ‘Elvis’, a biopic of his life.
     
  • According to The Naked Scientist in December 2000, “There are now at least 85,000 Elvis’s around the world, compared to only 170 in 1977 when Elvis died. At this rate of growth, experts predict that by 2019 Elvis impersonators will make up a third of the world population.”
